Five Exercises that Will Prepare You for Dance Classes

Are you interested in enrolling in dance classes?  Do you want to be sure that you are prepared to get started once you are able to start dancing again?  Dance classes in Altamonte Springs offer many different styles and levels to ensure the comfort of our dancers.  We want to you be able to learn and commit yourself to growing as a dancer, so we fit you into a class of your liking and level.  Before you get started, you may want to take some time to prepare your body for dance.  To get in dancing shape, there are a few exercises that you can try at home to make you more prepared once the studios open back up.

Cardio

Dancers have a lot of endurance and strength to get them through rigorous dance routines.  Cardio is a great way to develop this skill and prepare your body for this type of exercise.  Once you get started with cardio, it can seem challenging.  Over time, you will start to feel lighter, which will make this form of exercise become much easier.

Stretches

Every dancer needs to do adequate stretching exercises before they start any dance routine.  Stretching properly prevents injuries from occurring while you are doing any type of physical activity, so do not skip this step in your routine.  If you continue to stretch, you can also improve your flexibility.  This is beneficial to dancers, who require high kicks, soft landings, and long strides.

Push Ups

Push-ups are a great exercise for anyone who is looking to improve their core and arm strength.  When you do this exercise, you are actually giving many different muscle groups a great workout.   Not only will this tone your muscles, but it will also improve your core strength and overall balance.  All of these skills will improve your dancing.

Leg Exercises

Dancers leap, jump, hop, and kick, which means that they need to have strong legs.  Practice doing leg exercises that target these muscle groups.  Exercises like lunges and squats will help you gain strong leg muscles that you can then use during your dance classes.  By practicing these before you start dance classes, you will already have strong leg muscles ready to learn more.

Ab Exercises

Your core is another important muscle group that will need to be exercised before you start dance classes.  Exercises such as crunches and sit-ups will help you gain ab muscles and core strength.   This will also help you strengthen your hips, which will prevent injury once you start dancing.

These are just some of the exercises you can try at home to keep your body in dancing shape or simply prepare yourself for dancing in class once again.  Our dance classes in Altamonte Springs are great places to connect with yourself and other fellow dancers while training your body to become a better dancer.  Contact us to hear about our schedule of classes today.
